In order to increase student retention and improve grades in several General Education courses, time and effort will be devoted to their revision in content and methodology. General Chemistry, College Physics, College Algebra* and Pre-calculus (at all three campuses) as well as Calculus I and II, College Spanish and English (only at UPR-Cayey) are the target courses for these revision efforts. Courses will integrate the development of critical thinking, effective communication, quantitative and scientific reasoning, information technology, and study skills. Furthermore, the integration of information technology as part of teaching methodology will support course revision efforts. Professors participating in the project will have use of the TLRC as a common meeting ground where they can go to develop teaching modules, take workshops, and share as members of learning communities. Once revised, courses will be piloted, evaluated, and fully implemented.
